    Emergency Shelters                        Shelter & Transitional programs

Emergency shelters provide a temporary place to stay and the very basic necessities for individuals and families in immediate crisis. Our shelters vary in population served, admission procedures, length of stay, and policies.

Crossroads Rhode Island

Crossroads Rhode Island provides a full range of health and social services as well as information and referral for folks without a place to stay. Crossroads Rhode Island's HELP LINE is a 24-hour telephone assistance program staffed by Information and Referral specialists with multilingual communications skills.

Crossroads Rhode Island also operated the statewide Shelter Clearinghouse, which monitors a daily count of available shelter beds.

    RI's Transitional Housing Programs

Transitional housing programs are designed to provide affordable, stable housing for people who have been without a place to stay. Residents can generally stay between 6 months to 2 years. Each program serves a different population, provides different services, and has different facilities for residents.

    Rental/Utility Assistance Programs

Community Action Programs (CAPs) receive funds to assist people who are experiencing a temporary housing crisis. To be Eligible, you must meet income guidelines and be about to lose, or have lost, your housing due to sickness/disability, loss of employment, damage to your home because of fire/elements. or domestic violence. Contact your local CAP for more information regarding eligibility and application guidelines.
