Our Mission

The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless has a statewide membership of over one-hundred full organizational, affiliate and individual members. The members of the Board of Directors include: leaders of homeless service organizations; government officials; educators; interested members of the public; and formerly homeless individuals. Board members are active in governmental relations, communications, fund-raising, and advocacy work.

The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless is organized to promote and preserve the dignity and quality of life for men, women, and children by pursuing comprehensive and cooperative solutions to the problems of housing and homelessness. This is accomplished through advocacy, education, collaboration, technical assistance, and selected direct services provided to homeless individuals and families, coalition members, elected officials, and the community at large.

The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless believes that homelessness is unjust and unacceptable. We hereby recognize each individual and family's right to: stable, safe and affordable housing, quality medical and mental health care, food, clothing, education and sustaining income and/or employment.

The coalition envisions a State of Rhode Island that refuses to let any man, woman, or child be homeless.

"Building Homes, Building Hope: Ending Homelessness in Rhode Island" is a blueprint of how to begin ending homelessness in RI. Please download or view this report from the RI Coalition for the Homeless.     Building Homes Building Hope

Recently, Maite Van Hentenryck, a member of the Ocean State Children's Choir, decided that she wanted to do something to help the homeless in Rhode Island. Maite was struck by the number of homeless persons she saw on her travels into Providence for physical therapy and wanted to do something to help. As a result, she organized the Ocean State Children's Choir members  (and their parents) around the idea of "Cookies for Hope". Cookies were sold at Choir concerts and the group raised $500!

Maite Van Hentenryck presents RI Coalition for the Homeless Executive Director, Jim Ryczek,

with a check for $500 raised during her "Cookies for Hope" fundraising drive.
